Composing

In addition to musical technique and expression, I believe it is important for students to have an understanding of music theory in order to elevate the individual and ensemble as a whole.  When students understand how music works, they are better able to understand decisions made by the composer as well as how their parts fit in the piece.  As a student myself, I was able to study composition and discover another facet of music that is fulfilling in a completely different way than playing or teaching.  In my free time I enjoy composing and arranging music in a variety of styles and ensembles including the Viper Marching Band.  I also stay active in composing, hoping some of my students might also take an interest in creating their own compositions.
